SW Cycling (Bikeability) Instructors

We are all committed and qualified instructors who believe in working together as part of the bigger picture.  We believe in putting a very positive spin on cycling, wanting to make it a fun thing to become involved in (although we also appreciate there is a serious aspect to it as well) .. learning on it's own can be very rewarding as your confidence builds, playing various games to acquire new skills whilst learning all the time but barely realising it!  Some of us are undergoing off road training as both Ride Leaders and MTB Instructors, others have trained as National Standard Instructors (with Bikeability accredited schemes) and teach on road skills.   We have also linked up with Cornwall MTB club who are CTC registered and organise extreme rides.  Their profile is on the 'Instructors Profiles' page as well as a link to their own website.  We also have an Approved Driving Instructor amongst our number who really knows her onions when it comes to the law and Highway Code issues!!

Are you involved with a youth group such as the Scouts or Guides or a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and want to get training in both cycling disciplines and/or basic cycle maintenance?  Or do you want to organise a child's cycling birthday party on one of the trails .. but where to start?  Maybe it's just wanting something as simple and practical as getting your bike(s) marked up for security reasons or you're running an event and hope to include a Dr. Bike session or hold a coffee morning with a difference, on the move?

Perhaps you've been inspired to find a training programme or seek advice for yourself for a forthcoming triathlon or taking on the challenge of a charity ride such as the End 2 End (approx. 1000 miles).  For a slightly shorter route, the Coast 2 Coast (St. David's and Lowestoft is approx. 360 miles or the more traditional Whitehaven to Tynemouth is in the region of 150 miles).

We also have a friend who does organised tree climbing parties and treetop camping.  He hopes to be swelling the ranks of instructors later in the 2009 but his current business adds to the possibilities and combinations ... He had a rickshaw pedicab but then the law changed regarding licensing so like Ames, sadly he had to sell it as there was just too much paperwork involved to keep it on the road!  Another instructor is also closely involved in watersports!!

Each of the instructors are very much their own bosses and all have their own particular skills and personal experience within the world of cycling, we just operate more as a co-operative so that if we get an enquiry which is either more local to one person than another or something that someone else specialises in, then our policy is to refer that enquiry onwards to the appropriate person, so that between us, you get access to the very best we have to offer.

Whatever it is you are aiming for, hopefully we can accommodate you and if not, then we may know someone who will be able to help - there are so many variables but if you don't ask, you'll never find out either .. Just tell us what it is you are looking for., the impossible, between us we should be able to do, it's miracles that take that little bit longer so if it is a miracle you're after, please don't leave it until the 11th hour to get in touch!  We are still hoping that we could get taster sessions organised with the help of Cycling Projects, so there are no exclusions but not sure when that will be so no promises on that one ..
