CycleAbility's Go-Ride registration has been processed and
we now have our Club Membership Number which you too, can now join.

The message from British Cycling read ..
"Thank you for getting involved in the Go-Ride programme and expanding
the opportunities available to young people in the south west."

In celebration of our becoming a registered GoRide Club, we are holding another event for people who are mentally or physically challenged and their carers and families on Saturday 23rd July 2011 .  To join CycleAbility yourself, download the application form by clicking here .. Our club name is CycleAbility and the current club membership no. is 870535.

Originally this had been planned to be held in Cardingham Woods, however the Forestry Commission have since advised us they 'rarely grant permission for large events during school holidays due to the risk of conflict between forest users.'   Thus it will now be held at Siblyback Lake Country Park instead .. all other details remain the same.  To find out more about Siblyback Lake, it's location and facilities please click here

Once again Quest 88 will be supplying the bikes although this time they will be more suited to off road activities whilst still being all inclusive.  We are also hoping to have barbecues in picnic area near the car park as well.  Lady George and her family are also hoping to join us.

There is a group involved with Cornwall Sports Partnership, looking to raise money to pay for specialised bikes such as hand cycles, side by side tandems, velo plus and various others can be purchased as part of setting up a disabled cycling facility here in Cornwall.  If you'd like to know more, check out the website that has been set up at www.cycleability.org.uk

The Launch Appeal will happen with the backing of Phil Packer (British Inspirational Trust), Dr Gary Brickley (Paralympic Cycling Coach), Lady Mary (Lord Lieutenant) and Lady George who kindly picked up her late husband's baton after his death. Please support us too!

Any funds donated will go straight to the charity so please, help them to help the many people who live in Cornwall and don't have the facilities to be able to cycle or those who come here on holiday and would like to try it! They are all National Standards (Cycling) Instructors and one of them recently qualified as a 'Wheels for All' Ride Leader under Cycling Project's auspices.

"I remember when the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls, visited the Sir James Smith School in Camelford and he specifically referred to the provision of sport outside of schools that must benefit the community as a whole, including those with disabilities. The Wheels for All Centre in Cornwall is a wonderful way of addressing that objective and I wholeheartedly support the project. I hope that the commercial sector in Cornwall will feel able to contribute to the funding of these specialised bikes." The late Lord (Eddie) George, October 2008

“I admire those involved for their drive and enthusiasm and I wish it every success. Cornwall is a wonderful county and I’m so pleased that it will lead the region in providing a cycling facility that directly addresses issues of equality and diversity. Our motto is for 'One and All' and this is a perfect example of that noble aspiration being put into action.”
(Lady Mary Holborow, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall)

Graeme Willgrass, is a Sustrans Ranger just over the border, next year (2011) will cycle 4000 miles around the mainland UK to raise money for the charity www.sustrans.org.uk. Sustrans have created 12,000 miles of National Cycle Network, one third of which is traffic free, enabling people of all ages and abilities to enjoy stress-free travel to work & school, as well as leisure activities in a peaceful ,low-carbon way.  Why 'Cycle for Health'? Four years ago, Graeme suffered a major breakdown, losing everything in the process, including his teaching career. Very slowly, this is changing and are beginning to take effect. Exercise and cycling in particular are a big part of this.  Graeme has always done lots between bouts of illness, but this is now part of managing and progressing his life. Mental health is still an area of great fear and stigma, but it needn't be. So, he has a plan (gulp!) for what will be the biggest adventure of his life. Please visit his Just Giving page and help him reach his target, email him or wave if you see a funny looking bike pulling a trailer as it will probably be Graeme., there are not too many people who use a trailer with a folding bike after all.  He also has a blogspot at http://roundbritain-cycleforhealth.blogspot.com
